Dust – low in fat? High in fat? Dust?

Yes, I’m back at Weightwatchers again. It’s a love/hate relationship that’s lasted since my second year at uni.

It does really work – when you can be arsed.

I lost over 4 stone on my first go, but I’ve never got to ‘goal’.

Bizarrely in the last few years I’ve noticed that when I’m being bad I always seem to even out at the same top-level weight.

(Maybe that’s just when I start to kick myself into action again – probably a function of the biggest clothes in my wardrobe.)

Q: Do all girls have a fat wardrobe and a thin wardrobe?

Anyway 6lbs last week and 1lb this week (the six was after a month-long break).

Ironically, I’m putting this entry in my Food category!

We went to Stratford for a wander today, seemed too nice a day to be stuck on campus.

Didn’t
do very much until we decided that we were famished and looked at three
or four overpriced sandwich menus before deciding to just go to Café
Rouge.

Now I was extremely dubious after my last trip to Rouge in Leamington after a year ago.

(Undercooked
potatoes in two courses, and then when I complained about my second
course they redelivered it with cooked potatoes and overcooked and cold
steak. Grrrr. I was so cross that I caused a scene. Himself was
mortified.)

And why is it called Rouge not Café Rouge in Leam anyway?! Exactly the same menu and everything…

Anyway
the food was fine: merguez salad with roasted peppers and tarte
paysanne with frites. …and they played the soundtrack to Amelie.

Now
normally, I’d agree with you, I’d think it trite and ridiculous – but
for some reason it put me in a fantastic mood and on the way out I had
to go into HMV and buy it.

(It’s playing now and himself is getting cross with me for skipping to my favourite tracks.)

But,
the real reason for this entry was actually a bit of a rant. What the
Hell are Stratford District Council anf the Tourist Board doing?!

In
a fit of guilt after the not-very-healthy-lunch I route-marched himself
out to Anne Hathaway’s Cottage over a mile from the town-centre.

I
thought it would be a pleasant after-lunch walk – but actually you walk
over half of the way there via nettle and dog shit fringed, poorly
sign-posted housing estate alleys. What is all that about?!

Writing about an entry you don’t have permission to view

This is rubbish and I’m saddened by it.

Suggestion:
Why not add your regular readers to a permissions category and assign this category to all your entries?

I know this is a hassle, but we’ll miss your blog entries in blogland (as Dan calls it).

In fact I volunteer this entry as a recruitment tool.

If you would like Nick to (a) carry on and (b) give you permission to read his blog then comment here.

(Nick, I think this is technically called lobbying.)

Today I am writing my presentation for the Internal Communications Conference that we have been organising on behalf of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations

It’s being held in Warwick’s London Office on 28 April and we have a good line-up including people from the BBC, BP, Leeds Met, the CIPR, Birmingham, Shefield Hallam etc.

I’m
presenting on how to make the most of an intranet as a two-way
communications tool rather than a prettily-presented list of functional
links.

Did you know:
That the top seven pages of insite get an average of 59,000 hits per month?

..and that

inbox insite, the weekly all-staff email increases the hits dramatically.

Not bad considering it used to look like this in 2001.

…probably because I had such good luck yesterday.

Firstly I was asked by the International Office whether I would go to Mauritius to represent the University.

…but more importantly I got taken on a double surprize night out.

  • I didn’t know where I was going but was told to dress smart-casual
  • I was taken out for dinner and drinks at The Gallery
  • Himself told me that he had got a new job in Finance (he’s been wanting to move from Logistics for ages – hence the CIMA evening classes)

In typical style he had told me that he was applying but
then got an interview, sat the interview and waited for the results
without telling me!

Anyway, the evening was fantastic, and the food was not bad at all (but not as good as it thought it was).

Case:

Roasted belly pork with purple potato salad, apple chutney (best dish of the evening)

Breast of Guinea fowl with black pudding, fig, coriander mash, Albafera sauce (it was chicken and they didn’t tell me before it arrived)

Himself:

Brioche bruschetta with sweet caramelised red onion, fried halloumi cheese, tomato oil (apparently the halloumi took over and the chopped sundried tomatoes in oil didn’t add anything)

Medley
of lamb, pork and beef Roasted lamb cutlet, pork fillet and beef rump
with root vegetables and dauphiniose potato, cep sauce
(steak was overdone and pork was dry but the lamb and potatoes were heavenly)

Would definitely go back, especially if I have another day like yesterday.

On
a different note I’m sat here listening to the wind and the rain and
desperately hoping that the Landscape Working Group Walk will be
postponed.
