From Idea Generation: Identifying the Most Useful Techniques

Trevor Sowry, Leeds Business School

An approach which has often been used to cover the idea generation
stage and one which many companies still follow is a procedure of a
random idea submission in which ideas are left to the people directly
concerned in product development, with occasional requests to company
personnel as a whole. Although this may have a semblance of an approach
it is basically a haphazard procedure which relies mainly on chance. A
system is required in which ideas are generated through an organised
network with a central collection point. The network should cover both
inside and outside the company and utilise different types of idea
collection methods and techniques.
