It Makes No Sense!

Writing about web page http://www.umm.edu/altmed/ConsDrugs/MefenamicAcidcd.html

Why would you prescribe this drug as a painkiller to someone who suffers with dysmenorrhea?

Its side effects include:

  • Stomach pain
  • Stomach cramps
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Weight gain through water retention

And it causes heavier bleeding.

Correct me if I’m wrong but this is like a period in pill form!

So much for my new kick-ass pain killers…

Probably because it’s primarily designed for Exactly That 🙂

I forgot to mention the most important part – it doesn’t work.

    More
accurately I suppose the question should have been – why develop a drug
for this purpose which has those kind of side effects?

Ah, that’s more of a problem.

All drugs have side effects; those are pretty typical for any NSAID drug. It seems that the incidence of those side effects is relatively low.

As ever, it’s about finding a therapy that works for you – if it’s no good, go and get something else.

  4. I
had a similar experience. Doctor prescribed me some drugs for a
breastfeeding related infection which said all over them ‘Not to be
used whilst breastfeeding’. As if I have nothing better to do than keep
going back and forward to the doctor’s surgery!! Hope you have found
    some better painkillers now 🙂
