Today’s the Day

He’s gone off to get the van.

I need to get in the shower before he gets back, otherwise he’ll be cross…

Dog tired already after yesterday’s conference.

Think we’ll get the keys around midday (need to ring MDAL).

Before
that need to go and get my traveller’s cheques and travel insurance for
Mauritius. Must remember to check that I can use my mobile over there.
And find a plug travel adapter.

Oh, and more dry-cleaning and cobbling to be delivered to Cannon Park.

(And must fit in a trip to the salon tomorrow B4 Mauritius.)

Also must put in my expenses today – how much do train tickets to London cost?! (Ridiculous.)

Jarvis Cocker is going to be on Desert Island Discs today! What?! That’s madness, Jarvis Cocker isn’t old and past-it enough surely? Eeesh, now I feel old.

I think I’m occupying myself today by worrying about minutia to prevent myself thinking about the move.

Or
– maybe if I concentrate on the minutia then it will make the day go
smoothly (in a
look-after-the-pennies-and-let-the-pounds-look-after-themselves kind of
way)…

No – actually what I’m doing is wasting time by blogging!

Right, spit-spot (as Mary Poppins would say), get into the shower. NOW!

We’ve exchanged!

We exchanged today – which makes me feel confident enough to finally show you a picture!

I was too nervous before in case anything went wrong – especially after the catastrophe further up the street…

So, here it is – what d’ya think?!

To quote the estate agents:

This
Victorian cottage occupies a much sought after and convenient
residential location within easy walking distance of the excellent
amenities available within the Heart of Earlsdon.

The
property has been the subject of considerable tasteful modernisation
and improvement and offers attractively presented accommodation with
the benefit of gas fired central heating and replacement uPVC sealed
unit double glazing and incorporates many original features including
traditional fireplaces and stripped pine doors etc.

The property comprises (to be said in best estate agent sing-song voice):

  • Two excellent double bedrooms
  • Attractive lounge with traditional fireplace
  • Dining room with traditional fireplace
  • Well-fitted kitchen/breakfast room
  • Spacious first-floor bathroom
  • Gas-fired central heating
  • UPVC sealed unit double glazing
  • Large secluded south-facing rear garden

…and we are still moving in on Friday… (touch wood).

Completion Date

Looks like we’ve finally got a completion date…

Next Friday.

It’s
weird feeling. I still don’t quite believe that it’s finally happening.
I’ve practically forgotten what the place looks like inside.

101 practical things to do now. Going to start packing and sorting tonight.

…and next week is really busy as well…

Then we move in on Friday and I fly out to Mauritius on Tuesday…

Eeek – in a minute I’m going to log off and give myself a stern talking to about getting myself organised….

Becoming a Villager

Writing about web page http://www.earlsdon.org.uk/content/home/

Last night I took a vital step towards becoming an Earlsdon ‘villager’….

I applied for membership to the Albany Social Club.

…and
there’s a rigorous procedure to be followed – you need to have at least
two friends who are currently members to start with to propose and
second you.

Then they display your application for two weeks
to give members a chance to oppose your application (in which case your
£4 deposit will be returned but they’ll keep the 20p administration
fee).

So, why go to all this effort?

  • It’s got a good atmosphere
  • It’s spacious
  • My friends are members
  • You can get a seat even when the rest of Earlsdon is mad
  • It’s become the location for Sunday evening drinks
  • The drink prices are inordinately cheap
  • (I want a pass fob!)

Now I’m just worried that I’ll be opposed because I didn’t put an Earlsdon address on the application!

Other news:
I’m grumpy because I’ve got an ear infection which means that my hearing is even worse than usual.

Completion Date

Looks like we’ve finally got a completion date – 25 April!

A week on Monday…

The
woman who’s buying the old people’s home (formerly police station, has
agreed in move in with a friend to get things moving. Bless her!

For the last few months it’s really seemed as though the housebuying wasn’t happening – just as though it had gone away.

Now it’s action stations:

  • Life insurance
  • Wills
  • Check buildings insurance has been transferred
  • Investigate unemployment insurance for himself
  • Council tax
  • Postal vote
  • Postal redirect
  • Service providers (gas/electric)
  • Telephone

Anything else?!
