Yesterday I cycled into work. It was the first time I’d cycled in years and is a story unto itself…
But it did mean that I was in Earlsdon in time for the school run as I skulked outside the cycle shop waiting to pick up my bike .
The main thing that struck me was the family resemblances between fathers and sons – not so much mothers and daughters . Sons seemed to be recognisably mini versions of their fathers, not necessarily in terms of features but in style of clothing and facial expression and attitude.
As I looked at the various fathers walking their offspring to school it was obvious to me that these school children were exactly as their fathers would be now (if that age).
The other thing – and hooray for this – is that I didn’t see anyone booting kids out of a vehicle at the school gates.![]()

This morning I did something out of character. I started a row with a man on the street.
I was queuing up outside the Co-Op at the cashpoint and a man was
haranguing the lovely Big Issue seller lady (who speaks almost no
English) about getting a job.
Being a regular I signalled to her that once I had my money I’g go in and get some change and buy a copy on the way out.
While I was in the Co-Op I could hear the man continuing to shout at the vendor.
So, I came out, bought my copy.
And then to my astonishment he asked me if I had any more money to spare for her.
At this point I was full to bursting with righteous indignation and
vented at him. I can’t remember what I said – but I think that it was
neither articulate nor nice.
It was only as I ran off to the the waiting bus that it occurred to me: quite simply the man was not all there.
I have just shouted unpleasant things in the street at a man with mental problems.
I feel dreadful.

Follow-up to Wilko Johnson & The Suspects from Casey’s Blog
And I’m not talking about R’n'B. I’m talking about what turned into rock’n'roll.
If you like twelve bar blues including:
And British Blues including:
- The Rolling Stones
- Cream
- John Mayall
- The Small Faces
Then you will love Dr Feelgood, described by Wikipedia as:
Dr
Feelgood are a popular British Pub rock band, who were formed in mid
1971. Although their most commercially productive years were the early-
to mid-1970s, they continue to tour, and record to this day. Best known
for early singles like “Back In The Night”, and “Roxette”, they hailed
from Canvey Island, Essex (east of London). The group’s distinctively
British R&B sound was centered on Wilko Johnson’s choppy guitar
style. Along with Johnson, the original band line-up was comprised of
John B. Sparks (bass guitar), John Martin aka The Big Figure (drums)
and Lee Brilleaux (vocals).

Writing about web page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_engine
Walking in to work today I saw a man opening his front door to usher out a small child.
At the same time an aeroplane came within earshot.
This left me with the strong impression that he was testing jet engines in his hall.
I
must also make a special mention of the white wrought iron gates with a
poodle design that are to be seen on a house further along.
